Seal of Approval Testing Process
Food labeling is not a good guide for parents and child nutrition. Child health is not helped by current food labeling.
Food labeling by the FDA is deliberately confusing because of food lobby interests significantly limiting the information and succeeding in having it presented in a confusing way, according to the former Chief Medical Officer of Colorado, Dr Ned Calonge–still active on my national health government groups and boards.
You can use the formula below—plug in the numbers per 100grams and you will come to a number.
For example (5 grams of fat plus 6 grams of proteen) minus ( 3 grams of protein plus 3 grams of fiber)= 11-6 = 5
Score 5, this is not a healthy food but because 4 is healthy, it is certainly a more nutritious food than one scoring 9 which would be very unhealthy.
FOOD
Internationally accepted standard for our guidelines:
Food is judged on nutrition as established by the European Parliament White Paper on nutritional profiling.
(Fat + Carb)-(Protein + Fiber) = a number between -5 and 30
as per the chart
Food receiving 4 or below can carry the seal
TOYS
Establishing a national standard for toy certification has meant extensive work with government authorities to find what is fair and reasonable to expect of companies.
Paranoid Parents is working as the the parents’ spokesman. This effort is not-for-profit and we have no manufacturing or marketing affiliations.
Many exemplary manufacturers are out there, self regulating, making toys with 90 parts lead when the FDA will allow 600.
Sometimes plastic toys are safer than wood toys. We are not saying “no plastic”, “no China”. Both can be appropriate for toy safety. For food, many parents do not want any additives, all organics and no preservatives. But with 98% of America’s children not getting close to a healthy diet, Paranoid Parents (as would the FDA) is concentrating on nutrition.
The government’s mandate is to promote “Less calories in than burnt off”. So someone can eat the correct calories, or even 5000 calories a day and still be malnourished.
So we are the parents’ voice demanding ‘nutritious food.’
