In the early days of the flu pandemic, before the flu’s severity was know, the behind-the-scenes word from the then Chief Medical Officer Ned Calonge was to have 2 weeks food stocked up in case disaster struck and schools and businesses were closed. And now in hurricane and tornado season stocking up two weeks of food is also a wise thing. (Obviously for your safety and security, follow the advice of health and weather alert official announcements. They do save lives. But also remember that flash flood deaths are far more likely than hurricane or tornado.)
An interesting thing happened when people started pandemic paranoia took hold and people started preparing for natural disasters by stocking up on food. Although paranoia-driven, the result was that with the extra food on hand, many families ate less convenience food and ate more healthy homemade meals instead.
So use your paranoid fears to keep the two weeks of food continually stocked and you will dramatically improve your family’s eating habits. You will find yourself using the stored food instead of trips for fast food. Wrong reason–fantastic result.
